Week In My Shoes: A Day In The Life Of Shenique Dawkins

Ever wondered what a week in the life of a nail tech looks like? Join Shenique Dawkins, as she walks you through a typical week balancing content creation, client work, and raising young twins.

Social: @_commoninterests

Location: Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham

Monday: Content Creation Day

I’m starting the week with content creation. As I work with The GelBottle Inc, I receive creative briefs every month. I like to dedicate a day to creating content with hand models, then editing the videos to get them ready for posting on The GelBottle socials. I absolutely love creating content for The GelBottle because I get to try and experiment with all of the products before they hit the market, which is always so much fun.

Tuesday: Full Client Day

Tuesday is a full client day, which I love because my clients are all regulars. Some of them have been coming to me for over seven years, so it’s nice to catch up with them every month. Most of my clients let me have creative control over their manicures, which is super fun and a great opportunity to create new content.

Wednesday: Admin Day

Today is an admin day, so I mainly work from home or should I say a coffee shop unless I need to be hands-on at the salon. Today, I chose a local coffee shop to be more focused on tackling emails, invoices, and stock orders. Afterward, I headed to the gym to de-stress before picking up my twins from nursery.

Thursday: A Day in London

Today I spent the day in London working alongside The GelBottle Inc at 1 Hotel Mayfair. Myself and some of the nail techs from my salon carried out manicures for press and influencers to promote and celebrate the newest spring collection: Mani Mansion. This collection was inspired by interiors, so we had a fantastic panel talk with the director of Lick Paint about colour theory. It was an inspiring and creative day!

Friday: Twin Time

Fridays are my down days after a busy week, so I always make sure to spend the entire day with my twins. Today, the weather was stunning, so we went to the farm for the day and got to feed baby lambs. It was the perfect way to unwind and spend quality time with my little ones.

Saturday: Busy Day at the Salon

It’s a 9am start today, which is early for me. Saturdays are a busy 9-5 day with clients back-to-back. We have most of the nail techs in, so it’s always a nice buzzing vibe with lots of creativity flowing in the salon. It’s a fun and productive day!

Sunday: Rest & Reset

Unless I’m teaching an educational course, I try to make my Sundays as slow as possible and use them to reset for the upcoming week. This Sunday was all about some well-deserved R&R.

I started with a morning run with an all-girls run club, where we ran 7k to a local deli and finished with a well-deserved iced coffee. After that, I did a bit of social media planning, tidied my house, meal-prepped for the week ahead, and of course, enjoyed plenty of cuddles with my twins.

What a week! From content creation and working with clients to spending time with my family, it’s a balance of hard work and relaxation. Looking forward to another busy, exciting week ahead!
