Festival Hair Styles

Festival style goals

Certain styles that we see every festival season never go out of fashion. And let's be honest, even if your clients aren't going to a festival, playing is still fun!

Our top 3 festival hair looks

Space Buns

Space buns are actually a very modern take on tribal hairstyles from the past, but the reason they got the name ‘space buns’ is likely because of the character Princess Leia, who wore her hair in large twisted buns in the first Star Wars movie.

Classic space buns feature 2 ‘buns’ that are essentially two ponytails with a centre parting. Then the hair from each ponytail is twisted and then wrapped around itself and secured. One way to wear this essential festival item is to leave the hair in the back down. Then, create two buns with the top section of hair.

Braids

Truly, no limit exists to the options for braided festival styles. Several braided hairstyles are available to choose from.

Some examples include tiny braids for ponytails, fishtail braids, and chunky bubble plaits for long hair. No matter your preference, there is a braided style for everyone. A braided style is available for everyone.

For clients with afro hair who like to have a full head of braids installed every summer, this is a great time to play with a half up/half down look or styles that feature beads.

Ponytails

Now the ponytail may sound a little bit too simple, but it’s actually the perfect festival hairstyle. A ponytail is a good way to keep hair out of the way. It can be made more stylish with coloured extensions, metallic ribbons, and braided sections.

Finish in style with accessories!

What would a festival hairstyle be without a little embellishment? Accessories are a great way for clients to show their style. Accessories help clients express their style. When booking for a special look, ask clients to show examples of styles they like. Also, ask them to share any accessories they want to include.

To keep space buns in place all day, use a statement hair clip or small flower grips instead of hair elastics. This will help prevent them from falling out. Hair elastics may not provide enough hold for the buns to stay in place. Statement hair clips and small flower grips are more secure options.

For anyone who’s opted for a braided look, you can add beads, embellished clips and grips or even braid in coloured extensions for an impactful finish.

Clients with short hair needn’t miss out on the festival hair styles! If you have a pixie cut or shaved hair, you can try adding glitter for a fun and bold look. There are tons of colours to try and it easily washes out the day after. For clients who don’t fancy the shimmer, try playing with coloured hairspray instead for a really graphic finish.
