Bridal Hair & Beauty Secrets: Expert Tips from the Duo Behind ‘Bridezilla’
With bridal season coming soon, we spoke with Kellie Boyd and Nicole Price. They are a talented sister duo who specialise in bridal hair, skincare, and makeup.
They gave their expert advice on this year’s trends and discussed their must-have products and essential tips for brides. They also shared how to deal with the occasional Bridezilla!
Kellie and her sister Nicole joined their skills to open a hair and beauty studio. They named it Studio NK, and it sits in the heart of Newbury.
They both love the bridal industry. So, they started an Instagram page for their bridal services. That’s how they created ‘Bridezilla’!
Kellie said they chose the name almost 15 years ago. They picked it to attract brides who know what they want. These brides expect nothing but the best for their momentous day.
This strong, memorable name stands out when clients look for hair and makeup artists. It often attracts brides who enjoy the fun and confident vibe it represents.
Kellie and Nicole have found their specialist areas. Kellie focuses on bridal hairstyling. She creates glamorous Hollywood waves and sleek, elegant buns.
Nicole specialises in skincare and makeup. She offers treatments like chemical peels, microneedling, dermaplaning, and custom facials. Together, they bring their brides visions to life.
In this feature, Kellie & Nicole share their top tips and advice to help you do the same for your brides this season!
What inspired you to get into the bridal industry?
Kellie -
From the moment I picked up a hairbrush, I knew hair was my passion. I left school at 16 to start an apprenticeship in a local salon, and it wasn’t long before I fell in love with bridal hairstyling.
Winning a local hairdressing competition in 1998 for my wedding hair skills was a defining moment. It confirmed that bridal was my true calling.
There’s something magical about being part of a bride’s big day, creating a look that makes her feel her most beautiful and confident. That feeling never gets old!
When do you recommend that brides book their hair trial, and what do you advise them before they visit you?
Kellie -
I always recommend booking a bridal hair trial around 3-6 months before the wedding. By this point, brides usually have a clearer idea of their dress, accessories, and overall vision, which helps us create a hairstyle that ties everything together beautifully.
To get the most out of the trial, I suggest bringing:
- Hair inspiration photos
- A picture of the dress
- Any hair accessories or veils
- Wearing a similar neckline or colour to the wedding dress
It’s also best to arrive with freshly washed, product-free hair to ensure we get the best results.
How do you stay ahead of bridal hair trends?
Kellie -
Staying at the forefront of bridal hairstyling is all about research, practice, and showcasing my work. I keep an eye on global trends—from fashion weeks to celebrity red carpets and bridal editorials.
Once I spot a trend I know my brides will love, I get hands-on—practising new techniques, refining them, and ensuring they’re wedding-day ready. Then, I share them across my social media, inspiring my brides while also setting the standard for luxe, modern bridal hair.
How do you approach difficult or indecisive brides?
Kellie -
Indecisive brides are often just overwhelmed with choices, so my job is to guide them with patience and expertise.
I start by asking key questions:
- How do you want to feel on your wedding day?
- What elements of your dress or venue stand out?
- What styles make you feel most confident?
From there, I offer professional recommendations tailored to their hair type and wedding aesthetic. I also reassure them that the trial is a process—if they’re unsure, we can tweak, refine, and perfect until they feel 100% happy.
What are your must-have hair products?
Kellie -
My kit is packed with high-performance products, but right now, Color Wow is at the top of my list!
- Color Wow Dream Coat Spray – A game-changer for sleek, frizz-free styles
- Volumising powders – Essential for adding longevity
- Strong-hold hairsprays – Keeps styles in place while allowing movement
- High-quality heat protection sprays – Keeps hair healthy and glossy
Luxe bridal hair is all about the details, and the right products make all the difference!
What about skincare? Any recommendations that you advise your brides before their big day?
Nicole -
My top tip for brides-to-be in the lead-up to their wedding is to focus on their home skincare routine. While professional treatments are beneficial, 90% of the results come from what you do at home.
For those who find skincare overwhelming, I recommend:
- Simplifying your routine with professional-strength products
- Using them consistently
- Increasing your water intake to at least 2 litres a day
Hydration is key—it affects how well your skincare products absorb and how smoothly your makeup sits on your skin.
