Bold, Blonde Summer

Bright, bold blondes are a trend that’s always in style but there’s something about these new Summer ’22 blondes that’s hitting different now the world is opening up. Read on for the latest blonde techniques and trends and of course, the best care tips for at-home maintenance.

Beautiful blondes
Goldwell Global Ambassador Angelo Seminaras Summer prediction:
“Solage, because I believe sun-kissed hair is the most beautiful hair there is. I created Solage to capture that spontaneous beauty you get when the sun lightens the hair naturally. For me, Solage is the way forward. It’s the best way to colour your hair because it’s super subtle and the most wearable.

For lightened hair, I love using Goldwell Blondes & Highlights Anti-Yellow Shampoo to instantly bring out the colour luminosity and minimise colour fading. I recommend using Goldwell Blondes & Highlights Brilliance Serum Spray for instant combability and built-in heat protection.

Also, to revive a cool blonde effect between salon visits, try Goldwell’s Color Revive Color-Giving Conditioner in either Light Cool Blonde or Icy Blonde.”

Indola Global Ambassador Paddy McDougall shares his blonde care essentials:
“Indola’s new Blonde Expert Care range is the high performing care you need for all blondes and is the perfect way to optimise your blonde service. With Integrated Hair Bond Technology you can ensure brilliant blonde looks with outstanding hair quality and high shine.

“Blonde Expert already offers the perfect performance, range and versatility to cover all your blonde needs, and with Blonde Expert Care we can ensure a client’s blonde is protected and maintained at home. The Integrated Hair-Bond Technology creates a protective layer around the natural bonds, helpingto ensure the integrity of the fabric of the hair is maintained throughout the whole process, from in-salon to care at home. Lived-in blondes...
Summer’s not just about bold and fresh tones; there’s also a trend towards sultry, lived-in, warmer tones, says Coral Jade.

“Clients are ditching the icy look and going for creamy and sun-kissed blondes. Money pieces and dimension are perfect for lived-in and low maintenance blondes and my favourite aftercare range for all my blondes has to be the Schwarzkopf Professional Blondme range. It has everything from lightweight shampoos and conditioners to more nourishing products for hair that’s really in need of moisture.”

Barb Mahony of Do My Hair, Leicester agrees, saying that lived-in blondes are all
about that beachy vibe.

“Lived-in colour is so hot for Summer‘22. From beach babe face-framing, sun-kissed subtle highlights to a sultry California chic, the thing that ties them together is that we’re still loving natural roots – whether it’s through a colour melt or leaving the root area on a Cali blonde. This not only gives dimension to the overall look but means the upkeep is more manageable.

“My top product suggestions for bleach clients to use at home would focus on ingredients that nourish and strengthen, so look out for ingredients such as soy protein. For an extra bit of hair love I always advise my clients to purchase a replenishing mask to use once a week and make it part of their routine. ”                                                                                                                              @do_my_hair

Lisa Carter is a real bleach devotee who’s excited to give clients that lived-in look. “As we move into summer 22, the first summer in a few years where we finally feel more free, I’m noticing that clients are looking for bright blondes but without the upkeep of dark roots. Thus, the lived-in effect is going to be bigger than ever. We’ll see minimalist foiling techniques on the top of every educator’s pin tail, the brightness of the money piece and a few strategically placed foils for added dimension. Less time in the salon chair and without the maintenance of an appointment every 6 weeks, this means our clients must do more at home to keep their hair looking the picture of health.

“For blonde homecare I’ll always recommend multi-tasking treatments, so advise on products that offer heat protection, UV protection, detangling, shine, smoothness, split end prevention and more!”

Tina Hollis of T2 Hair & Beauty in Kent says less is more come the Summer
months...

“I always encourage clients to think ahead when it comes to big blonde work; we’ll start in April and May so that by the time June, July and August roll around it’s more about maintenance work and not so much heavy lifting. The sun is so strong – it’s stronger than any products we use – and while people think about their skin getting tanned they often forget the effect it’s having on their hair!

“Many of my clients come in for balayage or foil work, so when the summer months come along I’ll focus on baby lights or face-framing techniques.

“I always use a bonding product, it’s so important all year round! It’s about finding one that maintains the hair ’s integrity but gives it some gloss too.”
