Bridal Styling: Romantic Updo
Curls are often a favourite amongst brides and bridesmaids as they are soft, romantic, and frame the face beautifully but there’s an art to working them into an updo in a way that looks just right and doesn’t fall out or flatten as soon as the bad weather hits. Here, one of our favourite bridal specialists, Annette Bradford, shows us how to achieve this gorgeous style…
Firstly, I like to start any hair up with freshly washed and dried hair. Usually I use a cleansing shampoo, such as Indola Care Cleansing Shampoo, to remove product build up and excess oil.
I use both straighteners and curlers to curl the hair as it gives a mix of tight and loose curls to avoid the style looking too uniform.
After each curl, I clip it using rollers and clips to allow the curl to hold the shape and cool. This also ensures the curls stay in for longer.
When all the hair has cooled, take the rollers and clips out and section an area at the top where you need volume. Backcomb lightly, then clip it up and out of the way.
Place the padding underneath the clipped section in the middle of the head – here I have used a donut – and secure with pins to make sure it’s held firmly.
Taking sections of the loose hair, gently backcomb, smooth the surface and add a light hairspray like L’Oreal Infinium Hairspray 500ml. Gently spread out the section of hair and take it up to secure in the donut, leaving the curl to hang out.
Repeat this process, watching the shape and keeping the curls loose, until the majority of the hair is clipped into place.
Do the same with the top section of hair that was clipped up earlier but ensure you keep the volume by securing it loosely to the back of the head.
Once finished, ensure that no clips can be seen at the back and loosen a few tendrils at the front if needed.
