MONDAY
I live in Essex and commute to the salon in Mayfair five days a week. The salon is closed today but I still have lotsof work to do; I’m a L’Oréal ID artist and I’ll be teaching at the academy in Hammersmith later on this week. I spend the morning gathering inspiration and ideas from various international fashion week shows. Then in the afternoon I’ll head into London to meet up with fellow ID artists to plan and prepare what we’ll be teaching.
TUESDAYMy main role at the salon is Senior Stylist, but recently I’ve taken over managing the social media too. I have an early morning meeting with Joanna Hansford, Managing Director of Jo Hansford, to organise our plans going forward. In between clients, I style the hair of a lovely lady who will be
doing some PR for us with the Mandarin Oriental as the Jo Hansford range is now available in all the rooms and suites at
the hotel. After my work is over I spend the evening teaching some presentation skills to the juniors, ready for their soirée.
Tying in with our Christmas PR, we will be offering three party hair-up styles. I spend the morning creating these and taking photos to promote the looks in the salon. It’s another busy day with clients before getting the juniors ready for their soirée. This year I was chosen to judge the event, alongside three other
colleagues. I think it’s so important to support the assistants and give them a chance to show us how much they have learnt.
It’s an early start today as I’m on my way to the L’Oréal academy in Hammersmith. We teach some students from Japan lots of session styling tips and techniques. After quickly packing up the equipment and products, I head back to the salon to work on some clients. One thing I’ve learned is how important it is to keep clients happy and organise your days as far in advance as possible!
Today I spent some time in and around Mayfair taking photos and gathering content to use for our social media. It’s a beautiful area to work in and we have
clients coming to see us from all over the world.
SATURDAYMy first client was a bride at Claridges Hotel. It’s always an honour to look after people on their special day! We had previously done a trial in the salon, so I was very prepared and it was so exciting getting her and her bridesmaids ready.
For me, it’s vital to be organised ahead of schedule. So, even though it’s Sunday, I spend part of my day prepping all of our social media posts for the next couple of weeks. This saves me having to rush around each day thinking about what to post. Now I can relax!
FRANKIE'S ADVICE
The hairdressing industry is fiercely competitive, so grab every opportunity you are given. Always make sure you are 100 percent happy with the work you are producing. Never think that you know it all: there is so much to learn as the industry evolves. Lastly a smile goes a long way!
